Paul Newman R.I.P.

Hearing the sad news this morning that Hollywood icon Paul Newman died at age 83 of cancer, I paused for a moment to think of some of his on screen work that touched me. Butch Cassidy & the Sundance Kid, The Sting, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, The Colour of Money, The Hustler…the list goes on.

Paul had become a bit of a commodity through his Newman’s Own brand, the mature salt’n’pepper Newman in his sixties looking at you from every kind of juice and sauce imaginable. As it’s described, probably in his own words, the shameless exploitation of his image in the pursuit of good.

Here’s a video interview of Paul Newman that represents his legacy well.
