Check out 200 Central Street

On the False Creek Flats is an industrial area of Vancouver that is like the land that time forgot. All around you see shiny new buildings, but in this little patch near the train/bus station on Terminal Avenue the old warehouses still stand. Central Street, which runs only one block in Vancouver, is not the kind of place you want to hang out at night.

Vancouver’s anti-graffiti program, which I wholeheartedly support, held a mural competition this past summer. I might have missed out on it if I didn’t duck down Central Street as a shortcut. The quantity and quality of the murals along this street, all which reflect some view of Vancouver urban life, stopped me cold. I had to get out and photograph the murals, which you can check out in the Flickr slideshow above.

Kudos to all the artists, and to city staff, for making a really grim block in no man’s land into a must-see destination.
