What an idiot

I love basketball, but this kind of crap makes me nuts. Here’s former Miami Heat all-star on what he thinks about ‘gay people’.

“You know, I hate gay people, so I let it be known. I don’t like gay people and I don’t like to be around gay people. I am homophobic. I don’t like it. It shouldn’t be in the world or in the United States.”

Here’s the audio clip of Hardaway’s interview that will make your skin crawl.

Miami Herald columnist Dan Le Batard points out that homophobic remarks from NBA players are routine, just not expressed so succinctly (or hatefully) as in Hardaway’s blather.

It’s a bummer for me only because I think Hardaway was one the game’s greats. I also worked on the multi-platinum videogame that put him on the box cover, NBA Live 98.
Hardaway’s upbringing may have fostered the ignorance and homophobia that he lives with today. However, it’s the macho culture of big league sports and talk radio that quietly endorses hate towards gays.
