RSS Feeds as ‘Social Glue’: Jeffrey Veen

Jeffrey Veen describes syndication feed systems like Bloglines as a type of social glue. In particular he flags the unfolding Microsoft RSS feed strategy. This is probably because the software giant has a poor track record of following open standards.

RSS Feed IconI’m not surprised that more people don’t rely upon RSS readers as part of their daily communications intake. It’s not exactly a user-friendly system, although the new Firefox 2 browser changes that.

I couldn’t possibly make sense of the internet without my Bloglines account for example. I’ve been graduating all my clients to RSS-enabled sites.

If you read blogs regularly, or even like to tap government releases or newspaper websites, you probably already use an RSS news aggregator. If you don’t, then hook yourself up with one. I like Bloglines, but try a few and decide for yourself.
