This story about AOL trying to revamp its moribund Netscape property further convinces me that the fine people at AOL are out to lunch.
Netscape is dead. As a brand it might have some kitsch value in about 15 years. The world's leading commercial internet browser for about 3 years, Netscape is one of the internet's great casualties. It was a horrible browser past version 1.0, and sadly developers wasted countless hours of their lives trying to conform to Netscape 4's unique handling of HTML.
No need to take it around behind the barn, beat it with a shovel or anything violent. Netscape is already pushing up the daisies. It is no longer of this world. Depending on your view Netscape is either gone to internet heaven, or roasting on a skewer at the Earth's core.
You can make mine extra crispy.
